Scott J Macey Obituary

Scott J. Macey, 80, passed away peacefully at home.
Born to Miriam and Arthur Macey, Scott was raised in San Francisco, California. Later in his
childhood, he was lovingly raised by his grandmother, Rose Sherman, whose strength,
guidance, and devotion helped shape the man he would become. He grew up alongside his
older brother, Bill, with whom he shared a lifelong close bond. Scott attended Lowell High
School, known for its longstanding tradition of academic excellence, before earning his
bachelor’s degree from the University of San Francisco. He later attended Santa Clara
University School of Law, where he graduated first in his class — an achievement that reflected
the intelligence, discipline, and dedication that defined his life.
Scott was a member of the California, New Jersey and Washington DC Bars and built a
distinguished career in law, government affairs, and employee benefits. He began his
professional career at AT&T, where he spent 25 years and served as Executive Vice President
and General Counsel of an AT&T consulting subsidiary. He later spent 11 years at Aon
Consulting as Senior Vice President and Director of Government Affairs. Scott was Of Counsel
at Covington & Burling and served as President and CEO of the ERISA Industry Committee for
two years. Even in semi-retirement, he remained active in leadership roles within the employee
benefits and human resources field, continuing to contribute his expertise and insight throughout
his life.
Scott was deeply devoted to his family and took great pride in the life he built with his wife,
Linda. His love for his family was unwavering and evident in every moment they shared
together. He cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren, offering steady support,
kindness, wisdom, and encouragement throughout their lives. Nothing brought him greater joy
than being surrounded by those he loved most.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; his children, Ben (Maria) and their children, Adam and Carina;
Josh; Nellie (Rob) and their children, Georgianna, Nate, Anna, and Ellie; Pam and her son,
Matt; and Ben (Annie) and their children, Lilah, Summer, and Chip. He is also survived by his
sister-in-law, Laurel Macey; and his nephew, Leon (Alicia), and their children, Shannon and
Connor.
In retirement, Scott continued his passion for collecting and reading books, finding joy in lifelong
learning and quiet reflection. He also devoted himself to adopting senior dogs, giving countless
animals comfort, care, and loving homes in the final years of their lives — a testament to his
compassion and generous spirit.
Scott will be remembered for his intellect, kindness, loyalty, and the deep love he shared with
his family, friends, and animals alike. His presence will be greatly missed by all who knew and
loved him. As he used to say to his family, “When I am gone, give me an occasional good
thought and get on with your Life”
The family plans to organize a celebration of Scott’s life in the coming weeks.
