Lawrence Matthews Obituary

Lawrence Matthews, beloved son of Eve Seabrooks and Charlie Spearing, and grandson of Laer Matthews, who raised him, was born on October 31, 1931, in Charleston, South Carolina.


With a life filled with love, dedication, and kindness, Lawrence departed this life on Thursday, April 9, 2026.  He was a man who cherished his family deeply and valued the bonds that held them together.


Lawrence loved the Lord and gave his life to Christ, trusting in His eternal grace and mercy.


He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beatrice Clark-Matthews; his sons, Mark Clark, Frank Clark, and Robert Genkins.


Lawrence leaves behind a loving legacy through his cherished granddaughters, Givonna Thomas and Koa Thomas-Fredericks (Adlar Fredericks).


His memory will live on through his great-grandchildren, Nigil Thomas, Atanasha Thomas, Nadir Thomas, Ny’asia Lasane, Omari Lasane, and Nova Lasane.
